McCook Man gets 90 Days in Jail in Sex Assault Case
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – A McCook man accused of sexually assaulting a woman while police say she was incapacitated has been sentenced to 90 days in jail.
22-year-old Kyle Groshong also received two years of probation Tuesday. He had pleaded no contest to third-degree sexual assault and second-degree false imprisonment.
Prosecutors say Groshong was a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln when he got into bed with a 19-year-old woman who was intoxicated and incapacitated on Sept. 7, 2014, and pulled down her pants and underwear.
Groshong’s attorney says his client has been suspended from the university for two years.

Sex Offender Arrested in Chadron for “Non Compliance”
On Tuesday June 14, 2016 officers from the Chadron Police Department had contact with Tracy A. Castleberry age 42 formerly of Aurora, Nebraska. Officers conducted a records check on Castleberry and found him to be a registered sex offender from Aurora Nebraska. Officers determined that for a long period of time, Castleberry had not maintained contact/verification as required by the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act, had failed to report his temporary living location and that he had failed to report he was no longer living at his registered address in Hamilton County. Castleberry was subsequently arrested for five counts of violating the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act (Class IV Felony). He was transported to the Dawes County Jail where he was booked and lodged. Bond was set at 10% of 10,000. “We actively monitor and make sure any sex offender required to register according to the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act, is in compliance and will bring to bear our full attention to those that fail to comply with the law”, says Sgt. Jarvis Wallage.
The Chadron Police Department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Scottsbluff Man Pleads No Contest to Manslaughter
GERING, Neb. (AP) — A Scottsbluff man has pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the stomping death of another man.
33-year-old Chris Murillo entered the plea Friday in an agreement with prosecutors. By entering a no contest plea, Murillo does not admit guilt, but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him.
Murillo had earlier pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and assault in the Nov. 29 death of 36-year-old Abraham Crane of Scottsbluff. Prosecutors say Crane died 13 days after he was severely beaten and kicked and found in an alley.
Murillo could get up to 20 years in prison when is sentenced July 15.
Murillo will remain in the Scotts Bluff County Jail until his sentencing.

Nebraska Brand Committee Audited by State Office
Panhandle Post News has received information regarding a recent audit of the Nebraska Brand Committee based in Alliance, by the Nebraska State Auditor’s Office. According to other media sources the audit mentioned several deficiencies of the Nebraska Brand Committee including misuse of State Vehicles, proof of ownership and back-dated forms.
The report states the committee was audited for 18 total issues which included receipt procedures, payroll issues and leave balances.
Nebraska State Auditor Charlie Janssen told KNEB Radio in Scottsbluff that he was dissappointed in the proof of ownership discrepancy…Janssen said “Proof of ownership is a big deal. I think that is what the Brand Inspection Committee was set up for back in 1941, so people weren’t bringing in other people’s cattle and getting paid for them. It is somewhat disappointing to see since that is your purpose.”
The audit is now at the Attorney General’s Office, where misdemeanor charges could be filed.
