MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) – A recent drug bust in Mitchell led to the town’s largest cash seizure in more than 20 years.

Police on Aug. 10 searched a residence and say they found ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and $33,212 in cash. Most of the cash was in a wall-mounted safe disguised as a furnace vent.

Police Lt. Don Everson says it’s the most cash the department has seized in more than two decades. The money is subject to forfeiture if it’s determined to be part of an illegal drug operation.

Two people were charged in the drug bust

More than 200 Musicians Support ‘Blurred Lines’ Appeal

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Composer Hans Zimmer, crooner R. Kelly and members of such bands as the Go-Go’s, the Black Crowes, Linkin Park and Three 6 Mafia are supporting Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I. in their appeal in the ongoing legal dispute over the hit song “Blurred Lines.”

More than 200 musicians filed a brief with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday to express concern about the ruling last year in a case brought by the children of Marvin Gaye, who sued for copyright infringement claiming “Blurred Lines” copied Gaye’s hit “Got to Give it Up.”

The musicians said the ruling could have “adverse impact on their own creativity, on the creativity of future artists, and on the music industry in general.”

Gaye’s descendants won a $7.4 million verdict, which a judge reduced to $5.3 million.

Meagan Schroeder (Facebook)-The Post has confirmed through family members that one of the women involved in this incident was former North Platte resident, Meagan Schroeder.

Update: 1/1/17 2:24

The Lincoln Police Department has released more information on the suspected murder-suicide in Lincoln, which left two women dead.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Superior Place Apartments, in Lincoln, at around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, on the report of someone making threats.

As officers were searching the area, they observed a black SUV and approached it. As they did so, they heard a single gunshot.

Inside, they found 31-year-old Meagan Schroeder dead in the driver’s seat, and her ex-wife, 40-year-old Brenda Schroeder, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Brenda was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say that the initial investigation shows that Brenda Schroeder took Meagan Shroeder’s life before taking her own.

Family members say Meagan Schroeder had an active protection order against Branda. The couple was divorced.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Lincoln Police are investigating a shooting outside an apartment complex that left two women dead.

Lincoln Police Assistant Chief Brian Jackson says officers were called to the apartments near 15th and Superior streets shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday because someone reported being threatened.

Officers searching for the person who called them found a vehicle parked nearby with two women inside. As the officer tried to contact them, a single gunshot was heard.

Officers found one woman dead in the driver’s seat, and a second woman in the passenger’s seat with a gunshot wound to the head. The second woman later died at a Lincoln hospital.

Jackson says police are still trying to determine if the incident was a murder-suicide.

The identities of the women who died were not immediately released.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Post has confirmed through family members that one of the women involved in this incident was former North Platte resident, Meagan Schroeder. We have received reports that the other person involved was also a former North Platte resident, but we have not confirmed their identity with the Lincoln Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with Meagan’s family. We will have more details as they are available.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A 15-month-old girl is in the hospital after being seriously hurt at a carnival.

The girl was injured Friday night while standing outside a bounce house with her dad while her mom and big sister were inside.

Lynn Bartonek says her granddaughter was swinging back and forth on a wire in front of the bouncy house when she was hurt.

Officer Charley Davidson said it possible the girl was hurt by an electric shock.

The girl’s parents flagged down off-duty police officers nearby who called for help. Paramedics tried to revive her for an hour before taking her to the hospital.

Bartonek says doctors found burn marks on the girl’s feet.

The girl still hadn’t regained consciousness as of late Saturday.

LOVELOCK, Nev. (AP) — The Juice will soon be loose.

Barring any last-minute issues, O.J. Simpson will walk out of prison a free man in about three months.

The 70-year-old Simpson on Thursday convinced a Nevada parole board that he deserved parole. He told them the hotel-room heist he pulled nine years ago was an error in judgment he’ll never repeat, and he acknowledged repeatedly he never should have done it.

The hearing was broadcast on national television. Afterward, four parole commissioners voted unanimously to release him.

As he was led down a hall and back to prison, the Hall of Fame athlete and former murder suspect raised his hands over his head in triumph and said: “Oh, God, oh!”

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Supreme Court has affirmed a man’s conviction in the 2014 beating death of a Wichita radio station employee.

The court on Friday rejected arguments from Antwon Banks that prosecutors presented circumstantial evidence that did not prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt during his trial for first-degree murder in the death of 25-year-old Daniel Flores. The justices ruled the state presented sufficient evidence to convict Banks.

Flores was found beaten to death in the basement of a Steckline Communication office in February 2014. Prosecutors said Banks bludgeoned Flores with a fire extinguisher after Flores found Banks scrawling hateful messages about Banks’ former girlfriend on a wall. The girlfriend was a Steckline office manager.

Prosecutors said Banks was upset over a recent breakup with the woman.
