Panhandle Post News has received information regarding a recent audit of the Nebraska Brand Committee based in Alliance, by the Nebraska State Auditor’s Office. According to other media sources the audit mentioned several deficiencies of the Nebraska Brand Committee including misuse of State Vehicles, proof of ownership and back-dated forms.
The report states the committee was audited for 18 total issues which included receipt procedures, payroll issues and leave balances.
Nebraska State Auditor Charlie Janssen told KNEB Radio in Scottsbluff that he was dissappointed in the proof of ownership discrepancy…Janssen said “Proof of ownership is a big deal. I think that is what the Brand Inspection Committee was set up for back in 1941, so people weren’t bringing in other people’s cattle and getting paid for them. It is somewhat disappointing to see since that is your purpose.”
The audit is now at the Attorney General’s Office, where misdemeanor charges could be filed.
